Hi D -
These are fantastic. Thank you. I love that we have Jay’s thoughts on this as well. So great. Please thank him!
The Pirate’s Dilemma sounds really interesting too - I’m going to try and get it.
Hmm. All this talk about Piracy. I’ve been calling our renegade approach, Brand Coups. Though when I think about it or describe it - it sounds bit more like Brand Revivalism. Like sort of “laying hands” on a brand in that evangelical, tent-revival sort of way. Though it’s also a bit of a re-birth, re-incarnation.
And still, I like the romantic image behind “Brand Piracy.” Though maybe these days with Somalia and everything that doesn’t have the best connotations.
I also really like the “Ideas” section here. When I email the group before we get together on Jan 17th, I’ll ask them to think about the below and come to the meeting with something along one of these lines.
Would love to see you if you have a sec before I leave for LA (Dec 31). Yep, and going to look at apts in LA and SF. Will be weird to look at places in SF. Still really torn. What do you think about SF vs Oakland? SF is still more beautiful to me, but I kind of feel as though the energy in Oak is much better. Berkeley for some reason makes me raise my eyebrows. What thinks you?
Thanks again - these are great. Hope to see you soon!
Love,
T
P.S - Hell - I’ll just go and post this on the blog. I think it’s interesting.

Hey T,
CONTEXT
So Jay and I watched this documentary called Beautiful Losers, about modern-day graffitti/fringe-y artists. Jay also just finished reading The Pirate’s Dilemma, kind of like a tipping point for the hip-hop generation. In any event, these two works have left him chock full of ideas, that I think could be really interesting for Nightjar to consider. Read on…
IDEAS
1. create a campaign about a totally dead brand e.g. something from the 1950s that is no longer manufactured
2. create a campaign about an idea e.g. hugs
Just some food for thought to stick in your hat and smoke, or something like that.
How are you doing other than launching a revolutionary creative agency? I’m around over the holidays although have lots of family/work stuff. We’re totally redesigning the CGC website and somehow all of my content deadlines are before New Years.
xoxox,
D
