I’m into the idea of a quote and an illustration sequence of some kind to start off the Look Book. Creating a rhythm initially will let us break that rhythm and grab more attention for the focal elements of the book. That said, I can really picture a minimally illustrated first few pages, and then a full-on visual jump on the third or fourth page to really throw readers into the Sand County world.
I am looking forward to working on the large group shot you mentioned as there are so many things to work off of. It is really important, given the style I am working in on this project, that I have visual reference material, and there is loads of fun stuff in that shot.
I also really can’t wait to see what Tommy has whipped up! He does really great work and has such a different style than I have. I’m sure seeing the way he has laid things out, and the visual rhythms he has created will inform how much/little illustration we want. In the meantime I will continue working on the final three straight illustrations and keep drawing our sweet Martha.
