Hi Everyone,
Here are some of my entertaining findings from the shoot, where the models and I discussed what the future will look like, their hobbies (outside of being beautiful), and their thoughts on the unique backstage-access angle Nightjar emphasizes for its projects.
Well, when it comes to envisioning the future, flying cars top the list. A handful of people excitedly proclaimed that the standard for transportation thirty years down the road. One model, Maritza, even said she’s seen ads for a flying car that’s on its way to becoming a reality.
Some models took the question a little bit more seriously, and gave some great responses. Chris, a student at Cal College of the Arts, believes there will be a lot of work in the future for industrial designers and engineers - to him, people who will save the world.
And Katie and Dominique, two sophomores from Queens who were spotted by our producer, Monique, in Union Square and pulled for the shoot, expressed a grave vision of what’s to come. “When you look back on history,” says Dominique, “you’ll see how the world has continued to progress every year. But for how long can that continue? So I think if we fast-forward thirty years, we’ll have come to some sort of end of progress. We’ll end up reverting to some sort of nomadic existence.”
Cyndle (fun fact: named after a Star Wars character), agreed. “We’re overdue for three major volcanoes to erupt. Weather patterns are going awry. The future’s gonna get animalistic.”
Once the models and I exhausted our discussion of what’s to come (or, more like became sort of somber from all our shared realizations about how grave the future will be if we don’t get a handle on consumption and behaviors, like war, that are detrimental to our continued existence), we moved on to some shinier talk.
What cool people…more to come!
-Amanda
